Health & Wellness

The Juice Daily is an Australian website that publishes useful and easy to understand articles on health and wellness including fitness and nutrition, wellness and spirituality. Quick and effective reads to make a real difference.

Here are three of my fav pain relief articles

Correct Your Posture

We all know good posture is good for you and a rounded spine is a bad thing. According to an article on the Juice Daily, we should be correcting our posture as many times as 3 to 5000 times a day!

Poor posture increases body stress and the stress hormone cortisol which contributes to weight gain.

How to correct your posture:

  • Stand up straight, feet hip width apart and your head facing forward.
  • Inhale and draw in your belly button on the exhale bringing it closer to your spine.
  • Squeeze your bum and curl your tailbone under you.
  • Now draw your shoulders back and down.

Foam Rolling

You can get foam rollers from sport stores, osteopaths and your local variety store. We have a ‘proper’ foam roller from a medical professional that cost us about $15 and a $2 foam pool noodle. Both work wonders.

Foam rolling can release sore muscles by applying pressure to joints, bones, tendons and all those places where our hard bits are connected to our soft bits. It can release knots, tightness and swelling and just feels good (after the initial sweet pain).

The constant pressure positively affects the collagen fibres and forces the fluid out that shouldn’t be in the area. The fibres then become more lubricated and elastic. Apparently the more you do it, the quicker your body responds.

The trick is to start out slowly and not overdo it!

Trigger point release

Also known as self-myofascial release. Like foam rolling it also involves applying gentle pressure to muscles to help them slowly elongate and release tightness.

You can use tennis balls or fancy rubber balls with rounded spikes on them. They’re both cheap enough to buy.

Read the article The tennis ball massage you’ve been missing out on for five quick ways to self massage your sore bits.

Use one or two balls to work on your feet to reduce heel, achilles and calf pain; your bum muscles; hips; spine and neck.
